Advancing Health and Racial Equity Through Legal Strategies Project
The Advancing Health and Racial Equity Through Legal Strategies Project provides outreach and education to increase awareness of Kern County residents and community advocates on the challenges and their impacts faced by immigrant communities.
The project ensures low-income immigrant communities are better informed about available resources in the community and are knowledgeable about their rights when accessing services from health providers, local authorities, and more. An annual “Peoples Convening” addresses the systemic civil rights violations of immigrants and works with the community for resolution.
Fair Housing Law Project
Federal and California State laws prohibit housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, family status, marital status, sexual orientation, source of income, age, and other arbitrary characteristics.
The Fair Housing Law Project (FHLP) provides fair housing education and outreach, investigation, and enforcement services for Bakersfield and Kern County residents who believe they have been victims of illegal housing discrimination, regardless of income. When fair housing investigations yield evidence of illegal discrimination, FHLP can assist and represent victims in administrative agency complaints and/or lawsuits.
